What’s this…a blog post?!?

The past month or so has been quite busy, so I’ve neglected this blog. My folks were here in May, and work has become a bit hectic. But I’ve had some time to do a little scouting in Yosemite, as well as some photography in the high country. So here are some images from the past month and a half.

My parents arrived in Sacramento on May 3, and we took a little tour of Northern California over the next week. They had never been to the state, so I wanted to take them to the coast and the mountains. After showing them around Sacramento, we headed west through Napa and the Bay Area, stopping at the Marin Headlands for the obligatory picture of the Golden Gate Bridge. Then we headed south to Santa Cruz along the San Mateo coast, visiting Butano State Park to see some big trees.

We spent a few days in the Monterey area, where we visited the aquarium, Cannery Row, and Big Sur. The photo to the left was taken near Pacific Grove, on Asilomar State Beach. The waves were intense on our first day, but then the weather pattern changed, giving us offshore flow and much calmer seas.

It was here that my camera decided to die. I was set up on the beach, with a great composition and some colorful skies. When I clicked the button on the cable release, the shutter never closed, and there was a grinding sound. So I was sans camera, with a stop in Yosemite yet to come.

We headed east through Gold Country, visiting Sonora, Angel’s Camp, and Calaveras Big Trees SP (there’s a big trees theme to this trip, it seems). Then it was on to Yosemite, where we spent a day in the Valley before heading up to Glacier Point for sunset. This view, although photographed to death, is absolutely spectacular. I’ll still shoot a few frames up here every time.

Finally, we headed back west, through the foothills and walnut groves, to Sacramento. Overall, it was a great trip, and my parents thoroughly enjoyed their first trip to the Golden State.

The coastline images should be up on my site sometime in the next couple of days.
